New CFP board chair seeks to broaden pathways to profession

Jack Brod, the new chair of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards board of directors, said it's a ‘pivotal time’ for CFP professionals as new standards kick in.

Vanguard veteran Jack Brod, who took on the chair position of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards board on Tuesday, has his sights set on bringing new people into the financial planning profession.

According to Brod, it’s a ‘pivotal time’ for CFP professionals and the industry, especially as the CFP board last year revised the Code of Ethics and Standards of Conduct, which will be enforceable starting June 30 of this year.

Brod said the bar is set ‘higher than ever’ with the requirement that all CFP professionals be held to a fiduciary standard when providing financial advice. He said consumers will come to expect and require that their financial planners be professionals who are held to rigorous and enforceable standards.
